Crack Sealing

The cracks over 1/4" in width willl be cleaned using a "heat lance". The lance uses compressed air and propane to blast a stream of hot air directly into the crack to blow out dirt and debris. The heat also dries up any moisture and improves the bonding surface for the sealant while drying any moisture. The sealant is indirectly heated in a double boiler melter, which is heated to 375Ú. The sealant is then injected directly into the crack by a hand wand with a steel shoe. This shoe slides along the surface leaving a neat, uniform band of sealant approximately 1.5" wide along the crack. All application equipment and materials meet Federal Specifications SS-S-164 and ASTM 1190.
